A contemporary acronym meant for increased inclusivity, Q.U.I.L.T.B.A.G. stands for Queer/Questioning, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Asexual/Allied, Gay/Genderqueer. Through Quiltbag, community members submitted designs for political patches that I individually silkscreened and stitched into a quilt. All patch submissions were asked to relate to the experience, oppression, expression, etc. of these identities. Quiltbag is a representative aggregate of disparate individulaties that comprise an engaged community.
Small workshops were held to foster and raise awareness about the project's goals, which included outreach at a local youth center for LGBTQ teens and tabling at a college campus Queer Pride event. Participants received a limited number of patches in exchange for the use of their imagery. A patch exchange was held in which participants were invited to retrieve their patches and swap designs with others in an informal gathering.
